  • Mike Sidlowski, PLA

    PRESIDENT

    Michael Sidlowski is the founder and CEO of Live Oak Landscape Contractors, a company he established in 1993 following his graduation from Rutgers University with a BS in Landscape Architecture. Over the past three decades, Michael has steered Live Oak's evolution from a design-build firm into a comprehensive landscape service provider, offering a full spectrum of services including design-build, property care, irrigation, and snow removal. Michael is a Licensed Landscape Architect and is a Licensed Irrigation Contractor in the state of NJ

    Under Michael's visionary leadership, Live Oak has experienced significant growth, now boasting a team of over 100 employees. The company's success is underscored by the long-term commitment of its staff, with many key team members having tenures exceeding 15 years. This stability reflects the positive work environment and growth opportunities fostered within the organization.

    At the core of Live Oak's success is Michael's unwavering "client-first philosophy." This approach has enabled the company to successfully execute projects across a diverse range, from intimate residential gardens to expansive, million-dollar landscapes. The company's client roster, which includes relationships dating back to its founding years, stands as a testament to the enduring value of this client-centric approach.

    In recent years, Michael has strategically shifted the company's focus towards "Climate Resilient Landscapes." This forward-thinking initiative emphasizes sustainable practices and innovative solutions, positioning Live Oak at the forefront of addressing the complex challenges posed by climate change in the landscape industry.

    Beyond his professional endeavors, Michael is deeply committed to community engagement and philanthropy. He serves as a Level 4 USA Hockey Coach, contributing his expertise to youth sports development. Additionally, he actively supports several charitable organizations, including The Valerie Fund for children with cancer and blood disorders, the Lupus Foundation, and the ALS Association of America.

    With over three decades of marriage and as a father of three, Michael's personal experiences have profoundly influenced his professional approach. This blend of personal insight and professional expertise has enhanced his ability to understand and meet client needs, further solidifying Live Oak's reputation for excellence in the landscape industry.

  • Deriek Chapman

    GENERAL MANAGER

    Deriek discovered his passion for landscaping at the young age of 10, using his father’s push mower to care for neighbors’ lawns. This early experience ignited a lifelong love for the green industry. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Business Economics from Rutgers University, where he developed a strong foundation in environmental management and business strategy. To further enhance his expertise, Deriek pursued additional horticultural education at Rutgers, equipping him with advanced knowledge in landscape maintenance and design.

    Throughout his career, Deriek has held diverse roles within the landscaping industry, making him highly versatile in service delivery and client satisfaction. His hands-on experience and multifaceted skill set ensure exceptional results in every project.

    Outside of work, Deriek has been happily married for over a decade and is the proud father of three children. A true outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys spending time in nature, coaching youth sports, and actively participating in community organizations. His dedication to both his profession and his community reflects his commitment to creating beautiful landscapes and fostering meaningful connections.

  • Mark Wartenburg

    VICE PRESIDENT OF CONSTRUCTION | LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

    Mark is a seasoned landscape designer with over 15 years of experience creating enduring outdoor living spaces throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. His design philosophy centers on balancing client vision with site relevance, architectural harmony, and sustainable plant selection. As a skilled plantsman, Mark expertly integrates native and non-native species to craft thriving, custom landscapes.

    Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and an associate’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design, Mark combines academic knowledge with practical experience to create innovative outdoor spaces that stand the test of time.

    Outside of his professional life, Mark is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys exploring nature through hiking and kayaking. He also cherishes his role as husband and father of two daughters. This passion for nature and family reflects his holistic approach to life, balancing his professional dedication with personal fulfillment and quality time with loved ones.

  • Curt Brown

    VICE PRESIDENT, PROPERTY CARE

    Curt joined Live Oak in 2012, bringing with him an impressive 30 years of experience in the green industry.  As Vice President of Property Care, Curt is deeply involved in all facets of daily operations, including account management, maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, and enhancements.  Additionally, he plays a crucial role in internal office duties, ensuring seamless coordination across the organization.  

    Outside of his professional life, Curt prioritizes family time, cherishing moments with his loved ones.  His dedication to both his career and personal life reflects his commitment to balance and excellence.

  • Guadelupe Arreola

    SENIOR PRODUCTION MANAGER

    Lupe has been an integral part of Live Oak since its inception, demonstrating unparalleled versatility and dedication.  Over the years, he has held a wide range of positions, showcasing his ability to adapt and excel in various roles.  As a true jack of all trades, Lupe consistently delivers results when they matter most, often ensuring the success of projects even when faced with the most challenging of circumstances. His vital contributions have been instrumental in the company’s growth and success, making him an indispensable asset.

  • Fernando Rodriguez

    SENIOR PRODUCTION MANAGER

    Fernando has been with Live Oak since 2002, gaining extensive experience in all aspects of the company.  Through dedication and hard work, Fernando advanced to the role of Production Manager, where he applies strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and innovation.  He has significant experience in managing projects from inception to completion, including defining project plans and ensuring successful execution.  Additionally, Fernando has a proven track record in operations, personnel management, and resource optimization to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality.  For over two decades now, Fernando has been, and continues to be, an invaluable member of the Live Oak family.

  • Bret Francis

    SENIOR PRODUCTION MANAGER – DESIGN/BUILD

    Bret was born and raised in the state of Florida before moving to New Jersey in the summer of 1995, where he has since spent the better part of his life. After a brief management stint in the restaurant industry, Bret discovered his true calling in commercial landscaping. Over the past 30 years, he has built an impressive career, starting as a laborer on cutting crews and steadily rising through the ranks to manage crews, lead projects, and oversee portions of financial operations. His hands-on experience and deep understanding of the industry have made him a trusted and respected figure in the field.

    Recently, Bret joined the Live Oak team as part of Live Oak’s acquisition of Greenleaf Landscape, where he is excited to take advantage of the vast resources and opportunities that come with being part of a larger entity. He looks forward to contributing his expertise and continuing to grow in this new chapter of his career.

    Outside of work, Bret is a devoted family man who cherishes spending time with his wife and seven children. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoys staying active and sharing his passion for sports with his family. Additionally, Bret finds joy and fulfillment in working with the animals on his family farm, where he nurtures a deep connection to nature and the land.

  • Joe Palagonia

    SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER

    With over 30 years of experience in the landscape industry, Joe Palagonia brings unparallel expertise and dedication to Live Oak Landscape.  Starting his career as a laborer on a mowing crew, Joe quickly rose through the ranks to hold positions such as supervisor, production manager, and account manager.  He gained valuable experience working with the renowned Brickman Group in the late 1990s.

    A New York native who grew up in central New Jersey, Joe is a proud graduate of Neptune High School.  Outside of work he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two sons and often engaging in beach outings and boardwalk activities.  An avid music enthusiast, Joe also loves attending concerts and exploring new music.

    Joe's commitment to his profession and his family makes him an invaluable member of the Live Oak team.  His leadership and passion for excellence continue to drive success in every project he undertakes.

  • Marcelo Martinez

    PRODUCTION MANAGER

    Marcelo embarked on his landscape career at the age of 12, working at his father’s landscape business to support his future college endeavors.  After attending Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Contracting Design/Build, Marcelo was presented with the opportunity to oversee landscape maintenance and snow management as a Grounds Manager at Drew University.  

    Outside of his professional role, Marcelo continues to support his father’s business by communicating with clients and fostering strong relationships.  His dedication to both his career and family reflects his commitment to excellence in the landscape industry. 

  • Scott Laurence

    PRODUCTION / ACCOUNT MANAGER

    Scott has built a diverse career spanning education, finance, and landscaping. After earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996, he spent nearly a decade as an elementary school teacher. He then transitioned into finance, working as a market maker on the NASDAQ stock market.

    In 2004, Scott became Vice President of Greenleaf Landscape Systems & Services, a family-owned business specializing in commercial landscaping and residential design/build. Under his leadership, Greenleaf thrived for nearly two decades, providing top-tier services across New Jersey. In late 2024, Greenleaf was acquired by Live Oak, a strategic move that Scott views as an ideal partnership. He is excited to bring his expertise and loyal clientele into the Live Oak organization, helping to grow the company into a more formidable force in the Tri-State Area.

    Outside of work, Scott values his personal life and hobbies.  He cherishes time with his amazing wife of over 25 years and their twin children, Megan and Corey.  Scott enjoys going to the gym, golfing, fishing, and actively participating in a wide array of sports.  He also loves spending his free time at the beach. Scott's personal life is rooted in a deep commitment to family and community, reflecting his values of hard work, loyalty, and balance. These principles have shaped both his professional success and personal fulfillment.

  • Joe Fryzel

    PRODUCTION / ACCOUNT MANAGER

    Joe Fryzel's passion for the landscape industry was nurtured from a young age on his family farm, where he learned the fundamentals of landscaping from his father. This early exposure not only instilled a deep respect for the natural world but also laid the groundwork for a successful career.

    Joe's professional journey culminated in the establishment of his own landscape and excavation company, which he successfully operated for 18 years. During this time, he served clients across New Jersey and Florida, honing his expertise in production management, construction design/build, and client relations. His extensive experience and hands-on approach have made him a trusted figure in the industry.

    Today, Joe brings his comprehensive skill set to the Live Oak team. His ability to manage complex projects, foster strong client relationships, and deliver exceptional results is invaluable. With a lifelong commitment to excellence and a passion for the outdoors, Joe continues to make meaningful contributions to the landscape industry.

    In his free time, Joe finds joy in exploring the outdoors, where he can connect with nature and appreciate its beauty. As an avid golfer, he appreciates the serene landscapes and challenges of the golf course, which offer a perfect balance of relaxation and personal fulfillment.

  • Rhonda Grossman

    OFFICE MANAGER | CHAOS COORDINATOR

    Rhonda has been a dedicated member of the Live Oak team since 2011, serving as Office Manager.  With over 20 years of experience in customer service and a strong background in accounting, she delivers exceptional support to her clients, combining professionalism with a personal touch.

    Outside of work, Rhoda leads an active lifestyle, regularly visiting the gym, walking her dog Sushi, and enjoying motorcycle rides with her husband.  Her passion for adventure and community reflects her commitment to building strong relationships both in and out of the office.
